Okaru-san

Okaru-san is a kind old woman who works at the Inn of Lost Things, tending to the Landlady and directing the other staff. Although she initially sees the Landlady as detached but kind, Okaru-san realizes that she is affected by the guests' pain and regrets, and does whatever she can to ease her burden. She had a daughter who died of an illness.

When she finally finds the music box she was supposed to have been looking for, Okaru-san hesitates to open it, knowing that she would have to leave the Inn and break the promise she had made to herself, to see the Landlady happy. Ultimately, the Landlady opens it for her, encouraging Okaru-san to think of her own well-being as well.
